7m King Dome Build
This one was a mission.
Tucked into the far reaches of regional NSW (we won’t say where, it’s a private retreat), this 7m dome with a deck was built on a site so remote even the local concrete companies refused to come out. Can’t say we blame them, but we don’t turn down a challenge.
So, what do you do when you can’t get materials delivered, you’re over an hour from civilisation, and the client still wants a beautiful glamping structure with all the bells and whistles?
You pack smart, build smarter, and bring a good attitude.
The 7m King Dome
Let’s start with the main structure:
-
Dome size: 7 metres in diameter
-
Internal floor space: ~38.5m²
-
Height: ~4m at peak
-
Purpose: Private, off-grid weekender
-
Setup: Designed and built entirely by Kingdomes
The 7m is our most popular dome size — it’s big enough for a full living experience (bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette) without jumping into “multi-dome compound” territory. It works beautifully for weekend escapes, couples retreats, and anyone who values simplicity with space.
The Deck: Built for Coffee & Sunsets
The Merbau timber deck out front? It’s no afterthought.
-
~40m² of additional outdoor living space
-
Built on a steel subframe, fully concreted in by hand (yes, by hand)
-
Offers a place to relax, dine, do yoga, or just sit and do sweet nothing
The dome itself offers just under 40m², so paired with the deck, you’re looking at just shy of 80m² total — the same footprint as a 10m dome, but with more breathing room and outdoor flow.
Remote-Ready Platform System
Because of the site’s remoteness, we couldn’t rely on standard delivery logistics. That meant no concrete trucks, no supply runs — everything had to be prepped, packed, and built with full self-sufficiency.
We used:
-
Steel subframe for the deck and dome base (termite-proof, rot-resistant)
-
Fully hand-mixed concrete on-site for structural footings
-
Merbau boards for durability and that warm, natural finish
This is what we mean when we say “we build anywhere.”
What Comes Standard
Every 7m King Dome comes with:
-
4x porthole windows
-
1x solar extraction fan
-
Lockable front door
-
Bay window for panoramic light
-
Full insulation + curtains
-
Steel platform
-
Freedom to configure the layout as you please
We designed this dome with the door at the 10 o’clock position, just left of the bay window at 12, giving a stunning open entry and framing the view just right.
Interior Fit-Out: Simple, Practical, Sorted
The client wanted a clean weekender layout, so we designed a T-section wall to divide the space:
-
Left: Bedroom
-
Right: Kitchenette
-
Behind the wall: Bathroom area
All internal walls were built by our team. The client was planning their own finishing touches after we wrapped, but the structural bones are solid, practical, and well thought out.
Unfortunately, by the time we finished the wall, it was too dark to get photos.
